Shri PL Tapdiya
President

Shri PL Tapdiya is a tax titan. Professionally a chartered accountant, Shri Tapdiya is associated with Kasturba Health Society for almost six decades. Assertive and authoritarian, Shri Tapdiya has brought technical competence, strategic decisions and professional skills to Sevagram. Famous for his phenomenal power of concentration, memory and enterprising, his financial planning, initiative and strategic thinking has led to the sustainable growth of the institute. He earned Dr Sushila Nayar's approving nod even before MGIMS was born and not only has worked with diverse people on campus- nurturing many of them - but also has built the institute - almost brick by brick. He has used his financial expertise and talent to ensure that the institute sustains a sound financial health. Shri Tapdiya is also associated with activities outside the immediate sphere of his work - several social and educational organizations in Wardha.President, Kasturba Health Society since May 2024.

Dr JM Dave

Dr JM Dave, BE, MS, MPH (University of Minnesota) and PhD (University of North Carolina, Chapel Hills, USA) has served as the officer-special-duty and director ( PHERI) Nagpur (1962-68); Additional Director General of Health, Government of India (1968-1973);and Dean and Professor of Environment Management, JNU (1974-87). He has been consultant to the World Health Organization, World Bank, UNEP, UNIDO and USEPA. Founder president of Indian Association of Air Pollution Control, he has been associated with Kasturba Health Society as a member since 1964.

Dr AB Vaidya

Dr Ashok Vaidya is an alumnus of GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai. A pharmacologic researcher, he has an MD in Medicine and PhD in Clinical Pharmacology. Dr Ashok Vaidya moved to Yale with the Merck International Fellowship and then joined the CIBA Research Centre, Mumbai. He is widely known for his research in Ayurveda and interest in what he calls reverse pharmacology. He joined hands with one of the leading Ayurveda specialists Vd. Antarkar and began exploring the possibility of using complimentary medicine along with modern medicine to alleviate the suffering of patients. The two of them undertook the first double-blind Ayurveda clinical trial on Arogyavardhini. Dr. Vaidya is presently the Research Director, Kasturba Health Society, Medical Research Centre, Mumbai. He has been associated with Kasturba Health Society since 1988.

Dr Shyam Babhulkar

Dr Shyam Babhulkar has a distinction of belonging to the first batch of MGIMS - 1969 batch. After graduating from MGIMS, he went to Mumbai and obtained MS (General Surgery) from Seth GS Medical College and KEM Hospital, Mumbai. He then obtained M.Ch. (Neurosurgery) from Seth GS Medical College. Subsequently, he joined Central India Institute of Medical Sciences, Nagpur- a tertiary neurological institute where he started the department of Neurosurgery. He then started his private practice in South Nagpur. His love for his alma mater and passion for performing neurosurgery in resource limited settings brought him to Sevagram. For a little over two decades, he visits MGIMS every Thursday and performs brain and spine surgery with orthopedic surgeons and neurosurgeons. A member of Kasturba Health Society, Dr Babhulkar has a rich experience of neurosurgical cases, and has performed challenging neurosurgery on patients with acute and serious neurological problems and co-morbidities.

Dr Ved Prakash Mishra

Dr Ved Prakash Mishra, known worldwide for his eloquence and oration, graduated from Government Medical College, Nagpur. After his post-graduation in Physiology (1980), he has served as a Dean, Faculty of Medicine RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur; Member, Management Council and Senate, Maharashtra University of Health Sciences, Nashik; Member, Management Council, Academic Council and Senate RTM Nagpur University, Nagpur; Chairman, Postgraduate Medical Education Committee, Medical Council of India, New Delhi and Chairman, Finance Committee, Medical Council of India, New Delhi. He is also the Chief Advisor at Datta Meghe Institute of Medical Sciences (deemed university) Sawangi, Wardha and Chancellor of Krishna Institute of Medical Sciences University, Karad. He is a member of the Kasturba Health Society since a little over a decade.

Dr Bharat Chhaparwal

Dr Bharat Chhaparwal has served as National President, Indian Medical Association (1994-95), was professor of Paediatrics at MGM Medical College, Indore ( 1987-1996) , Medical Superintendent, Chacha Nehru Bal Chikitsalaya Avam Anusandhan Kendra (1993-1996), Maharaja Yeshwant Rao Hospital & Associated Group of Hospitals (1995-1996) , Vice President, Medical Council of India ( 1995-2001) and also acting president, MCI ( May-June 2001). He has also served as vice chancellor of Devi Ahilya Vishwavidyalaya, Indore (1996-2004) and chairman, Aegis School of Business and Communication.

Shri Jayant Kumar Banthia

Jayant Kumar Banthia - an Indian Administrative Officer of 1977 batch - has a masters degree in demography from the London School of Economics. Mr Banthia has held several important positions in the Government in India and has served as Chief Technical Adviser to the United Nations Population Fund, Nigeria. His initial postings include chief executive officer of Wardha Zilla Parishad, collector, Nagpur and Bhandara. He was on central deputation as Director of Census Operations under the Ministry of Home Affairs, where he was promoted as Registrar General and Census Commissioner, a post he held till May 2005. In June 2005, he was appointed as the Chief Technical Advisor with the United Nations Population Fund. On January 6, 2010, he returned to the state government and was appointed commissioner, family welfare. In 2011, he was promoted as additional chief secretary (public health). In June 2012, he was appointed the chief secretary of the Government of Maharashtra- a post he held till December 2013. Mr Banthia was nominated as member of the Kasturba Health Society in 2014.

Dr Skand Kumar Trivedi

Skand Kumar Trivedi, born 24 September 1965, is a well-known Bhopal based Interventional Cardiologist. He was nominated as a member of Kasturba Health Society in September 2015. An alumnus of MGIMS, Dr Skand Trivedi belongs to the class of 1982. He obtained MD (Medicine) from his alma mater in 1990 and DM ( Cardiology) from the Christian Medical College, Vellore, in 1995. A brilliant student all through his career, he was awarded a gold medal for standing first in the DM (Cardiology) examination in April 1995. Dr Trivedi served as a registrar, tutor and senior lecturer at the Christian Medical College, Vellore between 1992 and 1996. He then worked at the Social Insurance Hospital, Riyadh, Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, as a Cardiologist, from 1996 and 1999. On his return to India in 1999, he joined the Miraj Heart Institute, Wanless Hospital, Miraj, in western Maharashtra, as an Associate Professor of Cardiology, for a year. Subsequently, he moved to the Bhopal Memorial Hospital and Research Centre, a 350-bedded multi-speciality tertiary care center for the victims of the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, in Bhopal, Madhya Pradesh. He helped the hospital establish the Department of Cardiology, and served as an Associate Professor and then Professor and Head of the Department, over a period of 14 years. In April 2014, he moved to Bansal Hospital, Bhopal - a 300- bedded super specialty hospital, as Head of the Department of Cardiology, and Executive Director of the organization. Having performed over 20,000 interventional procedures including angiographies, angioplasties, valvuloplasties, cardiac defect closures and cardiac resynchronisation procedures, Dr. Trivedi is well known for his skills in interventional cardiology. Through natural talent and additional training, he has successfully bridged the gap between delivering high-quality clinical care and administering the business of health care. He brings his rich experience in teaching, medical research, cardiology, human-resources management, financial decision making and regulatory compliance to his alma mater.

Prof Vasudha Kamat

Prof. Vasudha Kamat, former vice chancellor SNDT University, is well known for her contribution to the field of Educational Technology/Information and Communication Technology for Education. She is a recipient of the Best Teacher Award by Maharashtra State Government (2005-06), Fulbright Senior Research Fellowship (2005-06), and Rotary International Fellowship (2004-05). She has served as the Joint Director of Central Institute of Educational Technology (CIET), National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT), New Delhi. She has developed strong linkages with the Commonwealth of Learning, Canada, University of Regina, Canada, Mauritius Institute of Education, Mauritius, Wawasan Open University, Penang, Malaysia and many more universities in various countries. As a Regional Secretary of All India Association for Educational Technology, she organised several conferences both at state, national as well as at international level. She has many books, book chapters and Research Papers at her credit.

Dr Mahesh Chandra Misra

Dr Mahesh Chandra Misra graduated from Kanpur University in 1975. He subsequently obtained MS (General Surgery) from Allahabad University in 1979 and FRCS from Glasgow in 2015). Dr Misra joined AIIMS in the 1980's and became the head of the surgery department 13 years later in 1993. A leading surgeon with special interest in Minimally Access Surgery and breast cancers, Dr. Misra also holds the record for the maximum number of endocrine surgeries in the country for adrenal gland tumours. He is credited with developing the AIIMS Trauma centre into a model of care for emergency services in the country. He took over as the AIIMS Trauma Centre chief in 2006. He served AIIMS as director between October 2013 and February 2017. During his tenure, Dr Misra took the medical institution to newer heights. The JPN Apex Trauma Centre expansion and construction of the surgical block are symbolic of his contribution. He is currently serving as a senior consultant, department of general and laparoscopic surgery at Sir Ganga Ram Hospital. In April 2017, he joined as the Vice Chancellor of Mahatma Gandhi University of Medical Sciences and Technology (MGUMST), Jaipur.

Dr BS Garg
Secretary

Dr BS Garg is Director-Professor in the Dept of Community Medicine and Director of the Dr Sushila Nayar School of Public Health, MGIMS Sevagram. Also incharge of the WHO Collaborative Centre for Research and Training in Community Based Maternal, Newborn and Child Health. Awarded the best teacher award by MUHS, Nashik in 2006 and Commonwealth Medical Fellowship in 1989-90. Awarded more than 62 research grants from WHO, UNICEF, USAID, GOI, ICMR, INCLEN, NACO, Aga Khan Foundation, Population Foundation of India & UNFPA. Has served as consultant to WHO (SEARO), DFID USAID and various international and national agencies on issues of public health concern. Have published 2 books and 136 papers, was dean of the institute from 1-10-2010 to 31-07-2014, Secretary of Kasturba Health Society since August 2014.

Shri Vinit Parekh

Mr Vinit Parikh aged 37, is Bachelor of Commerce from University of Mumbai and Chartered Accountant. He has spent more than 16 years in the field of finance. Mr Vinit Parikh has worked in the various fields of finance namely Asset Management, Capital Market & Investment Banking. Mr Vinit Parikh is on the board of various companies in the field of finance, thermal power & micro finance and provides managerial & strategic guidance to these companies.
