Institutional Ethics Committee
The Institutional Ethics Committee (IEC) of the Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences, Sevagram (IEC, MGIMS) is constituted to ensure the research projects submitted by the institute are sound in scientific design with statistical validity, and are carried according to the standard guidelines as prescribed by Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Indian council of Medical Research (ICMR) guidelines and protect the safety, dignity, rights and wellbeing of the potential research participants.
IEC, MGIMS is responsible for all the human research related ethical issues conducted in this institute or in an around Kasturba Hospital under the compliance of New Drugs and Clinical Trials Rules, 2019, National Ethical Guidelines for Biomedical Research on Human Participants by ICMR and its requirements.
IEC, MGIMS a statutory body registered under the aegis of Drug Controller General of India (DCGI) since 2013 and now, has been registered under the Department of Health Research, MoHFW. IEC, MGIMS has also acquired the NABH (National Accreditation Board of Hospitals & Healthcare) accreditation in March 2021.

It is responsibility of investigators to get approval for any biomedical and health research or clinical trial or bioavailability or bioequivalence studies before its implementation by the IEC, MGIMS.
IEC follows the stipulated guidelines as mentioned in the Standard Operating Procedures (SOPs) for the purpose of its operation.
