Outpatient Services

Registration

All outpatients are registered in a registration OPD which functions between 8:00 am and 1:00 PM, Monday to Saturday. We charge Rs. 10 for a new registration and Rs. 5 for subsequent visits. All consultations in the hospital are free.

Patients are encouraged to bring with them their insurance card. The registration clerk enters or verifies all information (name, address etc.) during the registration process. A computerized hospital information system (HIS) generates a patient identifier (a 12 digit clinical record number) which is used to track all transactions of the patients in the hospital.

On average, each day we register 1200 patients, take care of 50 patients in the accident and emergency department and admit 120 patients to our wards.

Flow of outpatients

Patients visit General OPD, after they obtain a hospital card. This OPD is staffed by community Medicine department. We use simple triage to select patients who need to be seen by specialists in the OPDs; the rest with minor ailments are treated here. This OPD offers our interns an opportunity to acquire clinical skills in history taking and examining the patients.

Outpatient departments (OPD)

Kasturba Hospital offers nine outpatient services: Medicine, Dermatology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics, Surgery, Orthopaedics, Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Eye and Ear-Nose-Throat and Ayurveda. Consultants (Professors, Associate professors and Lecturers) assisted by consultants care for patients in the OPDS. We also assign interns to each OPD and rotate them in different departments. On average, we care for 175 patients in each outpatient service.

Multi speciality OPD at Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation

A multi speciality OPD was started in the campus of the Gandhi Memorial Leprosy Foundation on 4 Feb 2014. Clinicians from the departments of Surgery, Medicine, Obstetrics and Gynecology, Pediatrics and Ophthalmology run their OPDs daily, while ENT, Orthopedics and Dermatology run their OPD twice a week. Facility for routine blood tests has also been created. The OPD was inaugurated by the Civil Surgeon (Wardha), Dr Milind Sonone in the presence of Shri PL Tapadia, Trustee, KHS, Dr (Mrs) P Narang, Secretary KHS and Dr BS Garg, Dean, MGIMS. With the establishment of this OPD, the long standing demand of citizens of Wardha, for having an extended facility of our hospital at their doorsteps has been fulfilled.
