Mahatma Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences hosted MUHS (Maharashtra University of Health Sciences) sports tournament for Vidarbha zones in its campus. The other zones to participate in the event were Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, North Maharashtra and Marathwada. Inter-collegiate and inter-zonal selection trials for Volleyball, Basketball, Kabaddi, Kho-Kho and Athletics were hosted at the sports ground.
On 9th-10th October, 300 students from different colleges assembled in the campus for inter-collegiate selection trials at Vidarbha level. Dr BS Garg (Secretary KHS) inaugurated the event by lighting the lamp and gave a head start to the events of the day. Dr Manish Jain, In-charge Games and Sports and Dr Satish Kumar, In-charge Student Council welcomed the cheerful crowd. Mr Girish Bhoware, Director, Physical Education administered the oath to all the participants, thus instilling a feeling of camaraderie among all. Five teams to represent Vidarbha at different sports were selected.
On 13th-14th October, inter-zonal selection trials was conducted in the campus. Selected teams from five other zones (Mumbai, Pune, Kolhapur, North Maharashtra and Marathwada) comprising of almost 750 players along with their team managers and coordinators participated in this selection round. The trial yielded a final MUHS team to represent the university at Krida Mahotsav-2017. Dr. Balasaheb Sawant Konkan Krishi Vidyapeeth, Dapoli will host the annual sports summit between November 27 and December 1.
Mr Bhoware, shared the pride moment saying, “It is a privilege to host these events and we have been organizing them for last 13 years. The students with excellent coaching and hard work reach here.”
Dr Manish Jain thanked everyone who made this grand event successful. This includes the management of the institute, the venues, staff, volunteers, and of course, the competitors and team management.
