MGIMS celebrates the Annual Social Gathering 2016

The Annual Social Gathering was held on MGIMS campus on February 26, 27 and March 11, 2016. The vagaries of the weather and the unseasonal rains couldn’t diminish the enthusiasm of the students and they pulled their socks to celebrate the gathering in two segments spread over a month. The Student’s Council also hosted the institute’s first ever graduation ceremony on 26th February 2016.

The cultural program was graced by Honorable Shri Dhirubhai Mehta, President KHS, Dr. BS Garg, Secretary KHS, Dr. KR Patond, Dean MGIMS, Sevagram and Dr. SP Kalantri, Medical Superintendent, Kasturba Hospital.

Dr KR Patond performed Natraj Pujan on February 9 to mark the beginning of cultural events. The open air auditorium was full of hundreds of cheerful students, faculty and staff. The social gathering rightly justified the title ‘Encore’ while the tag line ‘Spirit of Togetherness with Centurions’ denoted the abound enthusiasm of students.

The main attraction of the programs was highly-professional graphics and lighting arrangements made through behind stage LED wall and multi-colored fittings. The program started by traditional garlanding of portraits of Ba, Bapu & Badi Behenji followed by a grand welcome. A mixture of colorful rhythmic dances, novel walk on ramp and a blend of classical and modern pieces of melodious songs kept the audience spell bound during the entire show. The professional orchestra team showered the gathering with incessant songs and dances. The catchy performances were the Ardha Narishwar classical devotional dance; Malhari, Bollywood Contemporary, Kollywood, Pathaka Guddi, Hip-Hop and Retro group dances including a special sequence dance dedicated to Madhuri Dixit; Sargam, K’pop, Nostalgia melodious songs; Requiem and Jugalbandi musical recitations by our college band; The Living Painting, a miraculous dance on the command of the painter, a dance on Beauty and the Beast theme, a special dance act dedicated to the acid victims. Besides, an Aqua, Armour Eterno, Vintage, Golden Sparklers, Bikers Expedition, Fashion Headgears, Stranger Boys, Blue Heaven fashion shows were also showcased by the students in their fabulous attire. Finally, a ‘Bollywood through the years’—an award winning dance performance made in the Vidarbha Zonal Competition by our students—was also showcased to the audience.

The program received huge rounds of applauses from everyone. Shri Dhirubhai Mehta said that this year’s cultural events seemed to have surpassed the spectacular cultural events that the students organize every year. “The overwhelming appreciation that we have achieved this year would strive us to only get better and bring out novelty”, said Dr Satish Kumar, Officer In charge Student’s Council. “I am happy that months-long preparation has finally paid off well”, said Dr Aditya Tarnekar, In charge Cultural Program. Mr. Nikhil Dorle, Cultural Secretary of the Students’ Council thanked everyone for their encouragement and admiration. The program ended with the National Anthem.
