The Department of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at MGIMS received significant recognition during the 66th AICOG (All India Congress of Obstetrics and Gynaecology) National Conference held in Hyderabad from January 6 to 10, 2024. This annual conference serves as a crucial platform for healthcare professionals and researchers to discuss recent trends and advancements in the field of Obstetrics and Gynaecology.
Dr. Poonam Varma Shivkumar (Director Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology and Medical Superintendent at Kasturba Hospital), earned accolades from the Safe Motherhood Committee, FOGSI, and JHPIEGO for her remarkable contribution to saving mothers and improving maternal health. She received felicitation from Dr. Sabaratnam Arulkumaran (the former President of the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists, the International Federation of Gynaecology and Obstetrics, and the British Medical Association) and Dr. Jaydeep Tank, FOGSI President. Dr. Poonam Varma Shivkumar served as a speaker in three sessions, delving into crucial topics such as Uteronics in PPH, WHO New Partogram - LCG, and Deep Transverse Arrest. Her contributions were further acknowledged as she took the role of a panellist in the session focusing on Severe Pre-Eclampsia.
Dr. Shuchi Jain (Head of Obstetrics & Gynaecology at MGIMS), received the FOGSI Movicol Corion Award in the senior category for her exceptional research contributions. This prestigious award, presented by FOGSI President Dr. Jaydeep Tank at the national level, includes a memento and a cash prize, recognizing her outstanding achievements. Dr. Shuchi Jain's involvement as an expert on the panel discussing Obstetrics Collapse, her guest lecture on Hypertensive disorders, and her role as a judge for oral papers further underscore her expertise.
The accolades continue, as Dr. Sanjivni Wanjari (Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) and Dr. Pramod Kumar (Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) were honoured with the esteemed FICOG fellowship of the Indian College of Obstetrics & Gynaecology. Dr. Wanjari and Dr. Sheela Shelke, (Associate Professor of Obstetrics & Gynaecology) were also invited as esteemed faculty members. Additionally, three residents presented oral papers and posters during the conference, earning well-deserved appreciation.
